Iran has strict regulations when it comes to internet censorship. The Iranian government and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps persistently block social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as well as many popular websites such as Blogger, HBO, YouTube, and Netflix.

Although Persian (Farsi) is the predominant and official language of Iran, a number of languages and dialects from three language families—Indo-European, Altaic, and Afro-Asiatic—are spoken. Roughly three-fourths of Iranians speak one of the Indo-European languages.

Farsi is the official language of Iran. It is also spoken by large sections of the population in neighboring countries (chiefly Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iraq, Oman, Yemen, and the United Arab Emirates).

Farsi, which is the Persian word for the Persian language, has also been used widely in English in recent decades, more often to refer to Iran's standard Persian. However, the name Persian is still more widely used.
