The network began broadcasting on 1 January 1993 and covers world news from a European perspective. In 2022 the network was bought by a company linked to Viktor Orbán's government. The acquisition was partly financed by funds from the Hungarian state.

Euronews today covers 31.9 million households in digital satellite and 5.7 million in digital cable, making up together 55 % of Euronews overall cable and satellite coverage in digital. In 17 countries, 25 national broadcasters take Euronews' signal and broadcast it live on their national terrestrial network.
