Palestine, area of the eastern Mediterranean region, comprising parts of modern Israel and the Palestinian territories of the Gaza Strip (along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea) and the West Bank (west of the Jordan River).

As of May 11, the military has announced the deaths of 620 soldiers out of a total of 637. The other 17 are more recent suicide victims and around 10 soldiers who died in vehicular accidents. The army's ambivalence, not to mention concealment of suicide data, is nothing new.

An armed conflict between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups has been taking place chiefly in the Gaza Strip since 7 October 2023. Clashes have also occurred in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and with Hezbollah along the Israel–Lebanon–Golan Heights border.
